CHEATSHEET: How Much SHOULD Your IT Cost You?

An employee uses paper, pen and a computer to figure out IT Cost for their business.

Here is a Cheatsheet of IT Cost

In this cheatsheet, we’re going to break down how much your IT should be costing you. HINT: If you’re paying for support by-the-hour, you’re almost certainly paying too much. Businesses nowadays have far too complex of environments to rely on break/fix support wherein they pay an hourly rate whenever something breaks. In this scenario, you’re not only paying for the support, but also the lost productivity time, damaged customer trust, and much more. That’s why we’ll focus on the more proactive “managed services” approach here.

Are you on an entry-level plan?

An entry-level plan with monitoring, maintenance, and security for all devices plus a set amount of remote or onsite support hours should cost you around $100 per device within the company. If you have specific compliance and/or security needs, you may pay a bit more per device within the company.

Are you on a mid-level plan?

A mid-level plan that includes everything in the entry-level plan plus strategic consulting, data backup, and business continuity planning with projects available at an additional rate should cost you around $150 – $200 per device within the company. Again, if you have specific compliance and/or security needs, you may pay a bit more per device within the company.

Are you on a high-level plan?

A high-level plan that includes everything in the entry and mid-level plans plus hosted and/or cloud systems managed in addition to on-premises technology should cost you around $200 – $300 per device and/or cloud computing user within the company. Again, specific compliance and/or security needs may require a higher fee per device within the company.

There you have it. If you’re paying MORE than the prices listed above, you’re paying too much for what you’re getting in return.

Of course, you get what you pay for, so you never want to find the cheapest route when it comes to managing your infrastructure. Always be careful of quotes that seem too good to be true, but don’t overspend when it’s not necessary.
