Senior Network Engineer (SNE)

About Us:

The Senior Network Engineer is a key role in Generation IX's corporate mission to provide the best quality technical support and network engineering services to its clients. The Senior Network Engineer (SNE) designs, implements and proactively manages client networks. The stability, reliability and ultimate satisfaction of GenIX's clients depends on the success of the SNE's initial network assessment and the subsequent design, implementation and management of the client's network.

The SNE also manages large scale, complex and non-standard projects which integrate both typical computer/network systems, but also infrastructure and organizational issues (such as electrical and physical construction, staffing levels and requirements, government auditing requirement, etc.).

Requirements:

  • Participate in Best Practices Development and Review process
  • Work with COO to ensure proper staffing and scheduling for client visits
  • Provide hands-on server and network installation and maintenance
  • Assess client network needs and design technology systems to meet those needs
  • Implement and maintain reliable data security plan at all assigned clients, including physical security, backup tape rotation and tape archiving
  • Timely, detailed documentation of all technical work related to clients
  • Timely, detailed entry of all client related work into GenIX time entry system
  • Participate in emergency help desk calls and pager rotation for after-hours client support
  • Plan and manage small, medium and large-scale system implementations
  • Proactively communicate with client and supervisor regarding project status, changes to project schedules and any other project related items
  • Document project plans and implementation steps
  • Coordinate project-related work with subcontractors (ISP, network cabling, etc.)
  • Timely, detailed entry of all project related work into GenIX time entry system
  • Research technologies and solutions appropriate for a given client
  • Participate in weekly engineering meetings with Network Engineers and other technical staff
  • Assist marketing staff in technical sales capacity on client calls
  • Assist Purchasing department to specify proper components and ensure timely delivery of equipment
  • Attend selected trade shows such as Networld/Interop, etc. and vendor-sponsored events in the LA area
  • Participate in GenIX sponsored/hosted events
  • General research into personal areas of technical interest and preparation for certification exams

Qualifications:

The ideal Senior Network Engineer is a skilled communicator who can answer client questions in a non-threatening, positive manner and can work in a variety of MIS roles, from hands-on implementer to high-level technical advisor. The SNE has a wealth of technical and work experience to draw from, a sense of broad confidence in all aspects of networking technologies and has the interpersonal skills to negotiate intricate political and organizational situations at clients. The SNE has the industry experience to manage not only technology, but also personalities and organizational cultures. The successful individual will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and 2008; Apple Server 10.5 and Workgroup Manager
  • Experience with a broad variety of computer hardware and networking technologies
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Project management experience
  • Professional, positive, team-oriented, customer-service driven attitude
  • Strong communication skills

Network Engineer (NE)

The Network Engineer designs, implements and proactively manages client networks. The stability, reliability and ultimate satisfaction of GenIX's clients depends on the success of the initial network assessment of the NE and the subsequent design, implementation and management of the client's network. The Network Engineer is a key role in Generation IX's corporate mission to provide the best quality technical support and network engineering services to its clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on server and network installation and maintenance (including server equipment, networking equipment, Internet access routers, firewalls and tape backup systems) consistent with accepted Best Practices for Generation IX
  • Proactively monitor assigned networks for overall network health on a weekly or bi-weekly basis
  • Assess client network needs and design technology systems to meet those needs, consistent with accepted Best Practices for Generation IX
  • Implement and maintain reliable data security plan at all assigned clients, including physical security, backup tape rotation and tape archiving consistent with Best Practices; document such security plans and update on a monthly basis
  • Detailed documentation of all technical work related to clients within 24 hours for small projects (less than one day of work) and 72 hours for large projects (greater than one day of work) according to Generation IX standards
  • Timely, detailed entry of all client related work into GenIX time entry system within 24 hours of completion of task
  • Participate in help desk calls, regular client visits and other client service on an ad hoc basis
  • Emergency availability via mobile telephone and/or pager at all times; participate in emergency pager rotation for after-hours client support one week every three months
  • Design, plan, implement, manage and document small network systems (in general, less than 50 users)
  • Proactively communicate with client and supervisor regarding project status, changes to project schedules and any other project related items
  • Monitor project time and budget estimates against work performed and report exceptions to supervisor
  • Coordinate project-related work with subcontractors (DSL vendors, network cabling vendors, etc.)
  • Research technologies and solutions appropriate for specific clients
  • Prepare basic quotations/estimates for work to be performed at assigned clients
  • Participate in weekly engineering meetings with other Network Engineers and other technical staff
  • Participate in Best Practices development team
  • Documents company technical procedures
  • Work with Director of Technical Services and Director of Support Services to ensure proper staffing and scheduling for client visits
  • Seek out and receive mentoring and coaching from peers and supervisors at Generation IX, both on technical and interpersonal skills
  • Share and contribute to the personal development of others in Generation IX
  • Attend selected trade shows such as Networld/Interop and vendor-sponsored events in the Los Angeles area
  • Participate in Generation IX sponsored/hosted events
  • Attend selected training classes in business critical technology areas
  • General research into personal areas of technical interest and preparation for certification exams

Qualifications:

Strong communication skills, project management skills and experience with a broad variety of networking technologies required. Experience in Microsoft Windows 2003 and 2008 Server, Exchange 2007, Cisco, Unix/Linux and Sonicwall required.

Advanced Service Engineer (ASE)

We are seeking a person with desktop/end-user help desk support experience with some hardware & software networking infrastructure and server experience. The Service Engineer provides services to both the technical and creative divisions of the company, with a potential for growth into either area. Hardware and software upgrades, on-site installation and maintenance and support services as well as organizing and maintaining resources is required.
